ROOF FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
This week we reached $33,210. Please open your hearts and your checkbooks and contribute to God’s building as we continue our fundraising campaign. We appreciate all your efforts. Thank you from your Treasurer.
Dear People of St. Michaels,
Perhaps, as we end one month and begin another, we have not had as many different and varied ministry opportunities in front of us. This very weekend, we will not worship in our own building, but join with our friends at Trinity Lutheran Church here in Fort Bragg, to worship with them at the special time of 10:00 am. It also happens to be Reformation Sunday, an event they celebrate every year. The texts used that day are ones that center on God’s work for us that justifies our joy in knowing God is for us; God has given us Grace! Our joyful reaction to that gift of Grace is what then flows from us, as a response to this great gift from God.
Then, the first Sunday in November, we will celebrate All Saints Sunday. This is a day to remember those who have gone before us in the faith; to remember those who have been so important in our lives. Our friends over at Trinity Lutheran also celebrate this day. Later in the month, we will again join with Trinity Lutheran in their sanctuary in a tradition you started before I came along: a service of Thanksgiving together before the actual national holiday. As before, this will be on a Tuesday, November 21 at 7:00 pm. It is Trinity’s turn to host, so it will be over there and it will included a pie social, in which we all participate.
Finally, just before the month of November ends, we at St. Michaels will host (along with Trinity) the first Ecumenical Advent Service (one of four) here at St. Michaels at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 29. Other services will be held later in December on Wednesdays, both in Mendocino and Fort Bragg also at 6:30 pm. We can look forward to starting this series out again at St. Michaels, as we did last year.
So even as we enter further in the Autumn season, we can see before us a number of ways to celebrate God’s love together and with others even outside of our St. Michaels Community and we can know God is active in our life together.
In Christ,
Pastor Randy Knutson
Please note the prayer offered by our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry for the Middle East:
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn
but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the
strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that
all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of
Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and
glory, now and forever. Amen.
Prayers for the World, Book of Common Prayer, p. 815.
